Moderate to heavy rains are expected in parts of Luzon and Visayas on Saturday due to the low pressure area and the southwest monsoon, or habagat, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

MANILA, Philippines — Moderate to heavy rains are expected in parts of Luzon and Visayas on Saturday due to the low pressure area and the southwest monsoon, or habagat, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa said that moderate to heavy rains bring 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall. It warned that the rainfall can cause localized flooding mainly in areas that are urbanized, low-lying, or near rivers, and landslides in highly susceptible areas.

According to Pagasa’s 5 a.m. weather forecast, the LPA mostly affects Central and Southern Luzon and the Visayas and Mindanao while the habagat prevails in the western part of the country on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the LPA which was last spotted 240 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes, may become a tropical cyclone in the next few days. /jpv
