MANILA, Philippines — The message of Eid al-Adha, the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice, to trust God and obey to higher callings is still relevant even in this modern age, House Speaker Martin Romualdez said on Friday.

In a statement, Romualdez noted that Eid al-Adha is a reminder for all Filipinos, and not only for Muslims, that there is value in selflessness and obedience to the will of God.

“Eid al-Adha reminds us of the power of obedience to a higher calling, the importance of selflessness and the strength found in unity,” he remarked.

“These are values that resonate not only within the Islamic tradition but also across all faiths and cultures. They are values that bind us together as a people, regardless of belief or background,” he said.

“The story of Eid al-Adha speaks of sacrifice made out of trust and devotion. In today’s world, this message remains relevant,” he further commented.

“It calls on all of us in government and society to serve with sincerity, to uphold justice and to always act in the best interest of the people we represent,” he added.

On May 22, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared June 6 as a regular holiday to commemorate Eid al-Adha, one of the two main holidays in the Islamic calendar.
