Pasig fire leaves 5 dead, including baby

MANILA, Philippines — Five individuals, including a baby, were killed in a fire that swept through a residential area in Pasig City on Wednesday evening.

In a Viber message to reporters on Thursday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the five fatalities were a 45-year-old male, a 39-year-old female, a 15-year-old male, an 11-year-old female, and a one-year-old male.

Three minors were also injured—a 2-year-old male, a 4-year-old female, and a 13-year-old female. They experienced difficulty in breathing, the BFP said.

According to the BFP, the fire started at 10:46 p.m. in a residential area on E. Mendoza Street, Barangay Buting, Pasig City.

The BFP raised the first alarm at 10:56 p.m., and the fire was put under control at 11:18 p.m.

The blaze was extinguished at 11:58 p.m.

Nine BFP personnel and 35 volunteers and employees of the Pasig local government unit, along with six ambulances, responded to the fire.

The bureau added that 11 families, or 39 individuals, were affected by the fire, which engulfed approximately five houses or establishments. The estimated damage has reached P600,000.
