Rainy conditions in past 5 days due to ‘habagat’
MANILA, Philippines — Rainfall was observed in various parts of the country over the last five days, marking the onset of the southwest monsoon (habagat) and rainy season, the state weather bureau said on Monday afternoon.
In a short statement, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said scattered to widespread rainfall was observed across the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.
The data came after the state weather service declared the onset of the habagat season last week.
“Based on the latest weather analysis and rainfall data from selected Pagasa stations, scattered to widespread rainfall has been observed in the past five days due to the southwest monsoon (habagat),” Pagasa said.
“This signifies the onset of the rainy season across the western sections of Luzon and Visayas. However, there may still be breaks in the rainfall that extend over a few days or weeks, referred to as monsoon breaks,” it added.
Pagasa advised the public “to take precautionary measures against the adverse impacts of the rainy season, habagat, and other climate and weather events.”
