4 killed in Ormoc City vehicular accident

TACLOBAN CITY — Four individuals, including a year-old boy, were killed, while several others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision along the national highway in Barangay Cabulihan, Ormoc City on the evening of June 1.

The fatal crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. and involved four vehicles: a motorcycle, two Suzuki multicabs, and a Fuso Fighter truck with a mounted crane.

Initial investigation by the Ormoc City Police Office’s Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) revealed that the truck, driven by a 48-year-old man from Kananga, Leyte, was speeding and swerved into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a motorcycle and a multicab traveling toward Barangay Valencia.

The impact also caused the truck to hit a second parked multicab on the roadside.

The victims who died on the spot were identified only as a 20-year-old male driver of the motorcycle; his one-year-old male passenger; a 40-year-old male engineer driving the multicab; a 41-year-old female passenger of the second multicab.

Injured in the incident were the 19-year-old female back rider of the motorcycle; a 75-year-old female passenger of the truck; and three minor passengers of the second multicab—aged 11, 8, and 6—who were all rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

The driver of the truck was unharmed and is now under the custody of the TEU for proper disposition.

All vehicles involved remained at the scene pending further investigation.

Authorities are continuing to gather statements from witnesses and conduct further assessments to determine liability.

The Eastern Visayas police reminded motorists to observe speed limits and remain cautious, especially on national roads that are often shared by both heavy and light vehicles.
