MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, or locally termed habagat, will continue to bring rains in most parts of Luzon on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa on Friday declared the onset of the habagat season, signaling the start of the rainy season in the country.

Pagasa weather specialist Daniel Villamor said that the monsoon rains will be in effect in Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.
“Monsoon rains are heavy and continuous. These will start late afternoon to evening and will last until early morning. Break from continuous rain is possible from morning to noon,” Villamor explained in Filipino during Pagasa’s 5 a.m. weather forecast.
He also said that Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will see overcast skies with high chances of thunderstorms throughout the day due to the southwest monsoon.

“Like any other areas of Luzon, like Palawan, since this is in the western section of the country, will be greatly affected by the rains and cloudy skies due to habagat so expect rains today,” Villamor added.
Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will experience more fair weather throughout the day. However, there will be chances of rain from late afternoon to evening.
