MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named Darlene Berberabe as the new solicitor general, replacing Menardo Guevarra.
Gueverra himself confirmed this development to reporters on Thursday.
“I am happy for Darlene Berberabe. As a top-caliber lawyer with an impressive management background. She will surely do as well as Solicitor General,” said Guevarra in a message to reporters through Viber.
“As for me, maybe it’s time to go back to a quiet and peaceful private life,” he added.

Berberabe was an associate lawyer in Baker McKenzie in Manila with specialization in labor law, before joining Procter & Gamble Philippines as a senior counsel and member of the Leadership Team.
She was then appointed chief executive officer of Pag-IBIG Fund in 2010.
Before being the dean of the UP College of Law, Berberabe was its senior lecturer, and a professorial lecturer at the Philippine Judicial Academy.
The Office of the Solicitor General acts as the “law firm” for the government, handling legal matters on its behalf, its agencies and officials.
This work includes representing them in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and other courts.
New DHSUD chief takes oath
Newly appointed Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling also took his oath before the president on Thursday.
The fresh appointments are among the latest changes in the cabinet after Marcos ordered his appointees to submit their courtesy resignations.
The chief executive intends to “recalibrate” his administration following the results of the midterm elections.
