MANILA, Philippines — The Pasay-Guadalupe section will be given priority during the Edsa rebuild project, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Monday.
According to DPWH Sec. Manuel Bonoan, the northbound and southbound sections of Pasay – Guadalupe will be prioritized in preparation for the 2026 Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit.
The Philippines will host the 10-member Asean summit next year.

“Ang utos po sa amin ngayon dito is we will have to avoid actually yung mga construction sa Edsa during the time na nandito ‘yung Asean meeting in 2026,” Bonoan said in a press conference.
(We’ve been instructed to avoid construction work on Edsa during the time of the Asean meeting in 2026.)
“So ang arrangement po natin dito ngayon is we will give priority to the section from Pasay to Guadalupe, Pasay to Guadalupe, southbound and northbound,” he added.
(So the current arrangement is to prioritize the section from Pasay to Guadalupe, both southbound and northbound directions.)

In terms of road lanes, Bonoan said the lanes used exclusively by the Edsa Bus Carousel will be the first lanes to be rebuilt in Edsa.
Transport Secretary Vince Dizon then clarified to the public that the entirety of Edsa will not be closed during the duration of the rebuilding project.
Furthermore, Dizon also emphasized that the Edsa Carousel will remain operational.
“May maling pagkakaintindi na isasarado ang buong Edsa na wala ang makakadaan. Hindi po totoo ‘yon. Lane by lane ang gagawin,” said Dizon in the same press conference.
(There is a misunderstanding that the entire Edsa will be closed and no one will be able to pass through. That is not true. The work will be done lane by lane.)
“Technically, mababawasan nga ng isang lane kumpara nararanasan natin ngayon. Kasi nga, ang isa sa mga utos ng Pangulo ay kailangan yung busway carousel tuloy-tuloy at dedicated yan kahit na re-rebuild natin ang Edsa,” he added.
(Technically, one lane will be impassable compared to what we’re currently experiencing. This is because one of the President’s directives is to ensure that the busway carousel remains continuous and dedicated, even as we rebuild Edsa.)
Preparatory works for the rebuilding project are scheduled to begin on June 13, with the actual digging and excavation of the road to start immediately after preparations are done.
