Court lets Taguig retain control of ‘Embo’ facilities

MANILA, Philippines – The Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 153 has allowed the City of Taguig to retain control and access to all facilities within the “embo” villages that were previously within the territory of Makati.
In an order, the Taguig court granted the writ of preliminary injunction prayed for by the city, enabling it to continue operating the facilities and delivering basic services.
The writ of preliminary injuction will stay while the tri to determine which city has the better right and possession continues.
The preliminary injunction followed the 17-day extension of the restraining order issued by the court last May 8.
Last May 20, a hearing was conducted where barangay captains and residents pf the “embo” barangays stating that the facilities such as health centers were closed.
To protect Makati’s rights in case of a finding that the injunction was improperly issued, Taguig was required to post a P50 million bond on top of the P20 million bond it had previously posted.

Meanwhile, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said they welcome the court’s ruling.
“We are very pleased with the court’s decision. Through the preliminary injunction, the restoration of services to EMBO residents can now continue. From prenatal check-ups, children’s vaccinations, and medicines for senior citizens to sports and wellness activities in courts and parks—everyone has the right to benefit,” Cayetano said in Filipino. /jpv
