MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating reports that retired Brig. Gen. Jerry Valeroso, who recanted his testimony against then-Sen. Leila De Lima, had been missing since April.

Social media posts supposedly from family members on Tuesday said Valeroso was aboard a silver sport utility vehicle (SUV) that left a compound in Malabon City and was last seen along Tirona Highway in Kawit, Cavite on April 6.

“We have to check it. We’ve had it investigated. We’ll just check what happened. I’ll have it fixed, and we will give you updates,” PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said in an interview with reporters at Camp Crame on Wednesday.

“Malabon already has a tracker team. They’ve already gone to Kawit to look at CCTVs,” Police Regional Office Calabarzon Lt. Col. Chitadel Gaoiran told INQUIRER.net in a Viber message also on Wednesday.

INQUIRER.net sought further information from the National Capital Region Police Office and the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group, but they have yet to respond.
